Introduction - starting point

Back in the 90's, I used to subscribe to the Tightwad Gazette, written by Amy Daczyczyn. Chock full of wonderful money-saving tips, Amy got me through years of being a poor college student and waitress.

Then I got a "good job," and all that fell by the wayside. My husband & I had money and we spent it... on eating out, travel, furniture, etc., etc.  All the things successful young (ish) people spend their money on.

Well, now my husband has lost his job and we have a mountain of credit card debt, plus a mortgage.

I truly believe we'll be ok in the long term (even though it's kind of scary right now), so I'm treating this as a great opportunity to get our priorities straight and develop some good habits which will serve us well into our retirement years and beyond.

Things that are on the positive side:
  1. Both of our cars are paid off.
  2. I know how to cook and am pretty darn good at it, too.
  3. Thanks to Amy and the Tightwad Gazette, I at least know HOW to save money.
  4. I recently finished my Bachelor degree, which opens up a lot more job prospects for me.
  5. My husband is handy around the house.
  6. My husband is incredibly competent in his chosen profession (computers).
  7. So am I (musician).
This is the beginning of that journey. Please, join us.
